D.O.Q. Priorat
Balcons
Essence of the wine
Balcons takes its name from the natural terraces or "balconies" found on the slopes of our vineyards at Finca de Mas Blanc.
Variety
Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Terroir
The Priorat terroir is unique, characterized by its poor, stony soil with a high presence of licorella, which imparts exceptional minerality to the wines. This environment, combined with the warm, dry climate, produces intense, structured wines with a depth that reflects the region's identity.
Winemaking Process
After several ripeness checks, the vines are harvested manually, variety by variety, selecting only the healthiest clusters at their optimal maturity. The grapes are then fermented in small tanks for 21 days, followed by the blending (coupage) process. The wine is transferred to French oak barrels, where it matures for 14 months with periodic rackings. Finally, it is bottled, where it continues its aging and refinement process.
Appearance
A deeply colored wine with violet hues and garnet reflections.
Aroma
Robust and powerful, it first reveals its time spent in oak, gradually giving way to aromas of ripe, pleasant fruits and spicy undertones. As it breathes, its honeyed fruitiness emerges.
Taste
Full-bodied and vigorous, it presents persistent tannins and wild fruity notes.
Serving temperature
18º
Food pairing and serving
Grilled meats such as lamb or pork, roasted red meats like beef fillet or rabbit. It also pairs well with game dishes, including wild boar or pork, aged cheeses, and hearty mountain rice dishes or mushroom and truffle risotto.
