Century XIX
Origins

150 years of winemaking
tradition
Our family’s winemaking tradition dates to he late 19th century, when Miquel Tetes
Valldosera, a deep connoisseur of viticulture, made wines at his birthplace in Sant
Cugat Sesgarrigues.
With tireless devotion, he transported the wines by cart to Barcelona, where he sold them to
wine lovers.

1942
FIRST WINERY TO
PRODUCE SPARKLING
WINE IN SPAIN
In 1942, Josep Mª. Tetas, son of Miquel Tetas, founded Bodegas Pinord, named after the
original estate “Pi del Nord.”
He created Spain’s first sparkling wine, REYNAL, inspired by the frizzante wines of France,
Germany, and Italy. With this pioneering spirit, he began exporting his wines worldwide,
establishing the winery’s reputation as a leading reference in Spain.
At that time, there was no specific classification for this type of wine, so Josep Mª. Tetas and
his wife, Antonia Marrugat, decided to give it a name that would reflect the unique experience
these wines offered.
Inspired by the fine bubbles that create a slight sensation of pricks on the tongue, like
the feeling of sewing with a needle – something Antonia Marrugat frequently did – they decided
to call it “vino de aguja” (Frizzante).
To preserve the natural bubbles and ensure the quality of this innovative wine, they used
isobaric tanks, which allowed the magical bubbles, personality, and freshness of the wines to
be retained.

1950’s
PIONEERS
IN THE PRODUCTION
OF SPARKLING WINES
IN SPAIN
CAVA DIBON. A sparkling legacy born from
the Family Estate.
In the 1950s, PINORD positioned itself as one of the pioneers in sparkling wine production in Spain. It began with its current Masia Dibon cava, made from the family vineyards located next to their masia, in the heart of Penedès, using the native varieties of Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada. Over time, we decided to use only the name “Dibon”, as a tribute to our roots and the family masia that has always been the soul of this cava. Today, our DIBON cavas are admired worldwide, standing out for their personality, quality, family tradition, and international recognition at the best competitions in the world.

1959
CAVA MARRUGAT, A FAMILY NAME
AND A TRIBUTE TO THE LONG AGING
OF OUR CAVAS
Josep Mª Tetas, the founder of Bodegas Pinord, wanted to pay a special tribute to his wife, Antonia Marrugat, by creating a brand dedicated to long aged cavas. This is how Marrugat was born a line of cavas that embodies the dedication and passion of our family for crafting excellent products. Bearing Antonia’s surname as its emblem, MARRUGAT cavas represent elegance, patience, and tradition, becoming a reference for quality and distinction in the world of cava.

The Marrugat cavas were installed in the heart of the Vilafranca del Penedès wine region,
in a modernist building dating from the early 19th century. A large structure, with an
underground cellar with controlled temperature and humidity, ideal for aging long aged cavas.
Marrugat produces selected cavas, based on Xarel·lo, the native variety of Penedès. These are
cavas with distinctive character and personality. The long underground aging process allows for
aging periods of over 10 years and the creation of prestigious reserves such as Marrugat
Imperial, large reserves like Marrugat Millessimé, or exclusive products like Marrugat
Suspirum, aged for over 6 years, and RIMA 32.

1960
FIRST EXPORTS
This innovation and commitment to quality led to our wines being presented at international competitions, where they received multiple awards and distinctions, solidifying the winery’s global reputation.

1970
STILL WINES
With the incorporation of the second generation of the family, represented by Pilar Tetas, Ángeles Tetas, Obdulia Tetas, and Joan Josep Tetes, PINORD took an important step forward in its development. Each family member brought their own experience and vision, driving the commercial, technology, marketing, sales, and purchasing departments. Thanks to their leadership and effort, the company created a more complete and diverse line of wines, always maintaining the family essence and commitment to quality.

1975
STRONG COMMITMENT
TO NATIVE GRAPES AND
PIONEERS IN INTRODUCING
INTERNATIONAL VARIETIES
In the 1970s, Pinord reaffirmed its commitment to native grape varieties while also becoming a
pioneer in introducing international varieties to Penedès. With the addition of Joan Josep
Tetes, the founder’s son, and his wife Rosa Mª José, the winery embraced the adaptation
of varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscat of Frontignan, and
Gewürztraminer, leading innovation, and experimentation in the region.
In addition to this focus on innovation, the family preserved native varieties such as Xarel·lo,
Macabeo, and Parellada, enabling the preservation of century-old vineyards, which today yield
unique and very special micro-vinifications.

1980’s
INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
AND AWARDS
The winery's constant innovation and commitment to quality led to our wines being
presented on a global scale at international competitions, where they received multiple
awards and distinctions, further solidifying the winery's global reputation.
.
Among the many awards and medals won, two stand out as particularly emblematic: the Gold Medal
for Chateldon Reserva as Best Red Wine at the prestigious Wine Challenge international
competition, and the Cava Wine Trophy for Marrugat Millessimé as the Best Cava in
Spain at the renowned International Wine & Spirits Competition, reflecting the
excellence of our wines and cavas.

1990
PIONEERS IN ORGANIC FARMING
In the 1990s, Pinord became a pioneer in organic farming, transforming all its vineyards in Penedès into environmentally friendly crops. This innovation, ahead of its time, resulted from a dual commitment.
In the words of Joan Josep Tetes:
“Passing on to future generations a more natural, healthier environment and understanding
that respect for the land is key to producing authentic, unique wines full of
personality.”

1990
MAS BLANC D.O.Q.
PRIORAT: A TREASURE
CLOSE TO HOME
Pinord made a dream come true in Priorat: MAS BLANC, a unique estate where the landscape, history, and magic of the region take center stage. Terraces and stone walls were built, and native varieties were planted to create wines that fully reflect the personality of Priorat, where the land speaks through unique and thrilling wines.

2007
PINORD ACHIEVES SPAIN’S
FIRST BIODYNAMIC WINE
CERTIFIED BY DEMETER
When Pinord acquired the Mas Blanc estate in Priorat, an 18-hectare plot of land that had
never been cultivated, it sought to preserve the terroir as much as possible and began with
organic farming.
Joan Josep Tetes’ innovative spirit and his commitment to regenerating the soil—aiming to restore
its nutrients and microorganisms after years of degradation—led him to embrace biodynamic farming.
After much effort, he succeeded in producing Spain’s first Demeter-certified biodynamic
wines.

2010
PASSION AND FAMILY COMMITMENT:
D.O. RIBERA DEL DUERO
AND D.O. RUEDA
In 2010, the Tetes family embarked on a new journey in the wine world with the acquisition
of a winery in Ribera del Duero. Drawn to the region’s terroir,
environment, and ancient winemaking wisdom, they created a project to produce wines that
reflect the unique character of the area.
Their passion for wine, the excitement of sharing a family project, and the desire to craft
unique wines that captivate even the most discerning palates led them to expand into
D.O. Rueda. They acquired a winery with old underground
cellars, committed to producing high-quality white wines.

2012
THE THIRD
GENERATION
With the addition of Mireia, Josep, and Joan– grandchildren of the founder, Josep Mª Tetas –Pinord transitioned all its estate vineyards to biodynamic farming with Demeter certification. The family also acquired a new estate in D.O. Montsant and expanded its wine portfolio, producing wines from other regions such as D.O.Ca. Rioja, Terra Alta, and Rías Baixas.

2015
PINORD AND THE WORLD
NATURE FOUNDATION
JOIN FORCES
Enonatura Initiative
Enonatura is an initiative launched by Pinord to conserve the natural environment
surrounding its vineyards. This includes forest management, restoration of natural habitats,
and the preservation of endangered species.
Since late 2015, Pinord has partnered with
the World Nature Foundation, an NGO dedicated to the conservation
of nature, biodiversity, and the environment. Together with the Pinord family, they carry out
actions under the Pinord Biodiversity Plan.

As Mireia Tetas puts it:
“Nature must be our guide and companion. We’ve managed to restore the soil and vegetation of our estates for grape production that respects the environment.
Species such as owls, white hedgehogs, and bats have been reintroduced to help us control pests and diseases naturally, becoming our greatest allies.”
2019
